Homeschooling in Nairobi: Tutor-Led Support for Every Curriculum

Homeschooling gives your family control over pace, timetable and values, but it also raises real questions. Who teaches the harder subjects at IGCSE and A-Level? Where do the children sit practicals? How do you register for exams and track progress without a school behind you? Cares Home-based Tuition supports homeschooling families across Nairobi with vetted, experienced tutors, a fully equipped learning centre and a real science lab, so your child gets the structure of a school with the flexibility of home.

Who this is for

Homeschooling looks different in every home, and our support flexes to match. We work with:

  • Families homeschooling full time who want qualified tutors for some or all subjects.
  • Parents who teach the younger years themselves but need specialists for IGCSE, A-Level, IB or SAT.
  • Children learning through an online curriculum who need a tutor to guide the daily work and keep them on track.
  • Students preparing for international or Kenyan exams as private candidates.
  • Families new to Nairobi who want a settled, structured plan quickly.
  • Learners who need a calmer, one-on-one setting, including students with additional learning needs.

What Cares offers homeschooling families

We are more than a tutor booking service. We build a full learning plan around your child and deliver it at home, at our centre, online, or in any combination of the three.

  • Tutor-led lessons across every level. One-on-one teaching matched to your child by curriculum, subject and level. See personalised tutoring.
  • A real science lab for practicals. Homeschoolers rarely have lab access. Ours is fully equipped for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. See science lab practicals.
  • Exam preparation and registration guidance. We prepare candidates and help you understand the exam entry process. See exam preparation.
  • Structured plans and progress tracking. A clear scheme of work, regular assessment and honest feedback so you always know where your child stands.
  • Flexibility that fits your family. You choose the subjects, the hours and the location, and you can adjust the plan as your child grows.
  • Socialisation and group revision. Optional sessions at our learning centre in Nairobi let homeschoolers meet peers, revise in small groups and sit practicals together.

How homeschooling with Cares works

  1. Book a free consultation. Tell us your child’s curriculum, level, subjects and goals, and any challenges so far.
  2. We assess and plan. We review your child’s current level and agree a scheme of work, a timetable and the right mix of home, centre and online lessons.
  3. We match the tutor. Your child is paired with a vetted tutor experienced in that exact curriculum and subject.
  4. Lessons begin. Teaching runs to the agreed plan, with practicals booked into the science lab where the subject calls for it.
  5. We track progress. Regular assessments and feedback keep you informed, and we adjust the plan as needed.
  6. We prepare for exams. As exams approach, we intensify revision, run past papers and guide you through registration as a private candidate.

Why the science lab matters for homeschoolers

This is where homeschooling families most often get stuck. Sciences at IGCSE, A-Level and IB are examined partly on practical skills, yet most homeschoolers have no way to run experiments safely at home. Reading about titration or dissection is not the same as doing it.

Cares has a real, fully equipped science lab at our Riverside Drive centre, with dedicated setups for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Your child does genuine hands-on practicals under a tutor’s supervision, builds the lab technique that written papers assume, and gains the confidence that comes from real experience. For a homeschooling family, lab access alone can be the difference between coping and thriving in the sciences. Learn more about our science lab practicals.

The benefits of online homeschooling with tutor support

Many families combine an online curriculum with live tutoring. Done well, online homeschooling offers real advantages:

  • Lessons fit around travel, sport, performing arts or a family business.
  • Your child learns from home in a calm, familiar setting.
  • You reach specialist tutors regardless of where you live in Nairobi or beyond.
  • Recorded explanations and shared notes make revision easier.

The one gap online cannot fill is hands-on practicals and face-to-face group revision. That is exactly why we let you combine online lessons with sessions at the centre, so your child gets the convenience of online learning and the practical experience of a real lab.

Frequently asked questions

Can Cares teach every subject, or only some?

Both. Some families use us for full-time homeschooling across all subjects, while others keep the subjects they teach at home and bring us in for the harder ones such as the sciences, mathematics or languages at IGCSE and A-Level. You decide the mix.

Do you help with exam registration for private candidates?

Yes. We prepare your child for the exams and guide you through the registration process for international and Kenyan curricula so you know what to do and when. See our exam preparation service.

Where do lessons take place?

At your home anywhere in Nairobi, at our learning centre at Daphton Court on Riverside Drive, online, or a combination. Practicals are always done at the centre, in the science lab.

My child is homeschooling for A-Levels. Can you support that?

Yes. We regularly support A-Level and AS students, including full science practicals in the lab, past-paper practice and structured revision. Tutors are matched by subject and exam board, whether Cambridge or Edexcel.

Will my child miss out on socialising?

This worries many homeschooling parents. Our centre gives homeschoolers a place to meet peers, revise in small groups and sit practicals together, so learning stays social as well as flexible.

How do we get started?
