Business Studies Tutoring in Nairobi
Business Studies looks familiar to many students because it deals with everyday things: shops, prices, workers and money. That familiarity can be misleading. The exams expect precise terms, calculations and well-reasoned analysis applied to a specific business. At Cares Home-based Tuition we teach Business Studies one-on-one, at your home in Nairobi, at our Riverside Drive centre, or online.

Our curricula page explains how these systems compare.
What a Business Studies tutor focuses on
The core topics are similar across most syllabuses: business organisation, people in organisations, marketing, operations, finance, and the external environment. Students usually find some of these easy and others hard. The tutor finds which ones need work and plans lessons around them.
Areas that often cause difficulty include:
- Finance: cash flow forecasts, break-even analysis, income statements, statements of financial position and ratio analysis.
- Application: using the details of the case study business in every answer, instead of writing general points.
- Analysis: developing a chain of reasoning that shows the effect of a decision on the business.
- Evaluation: reaching a justified judgement, which carries the highest marks at IGCSE and A-Level.
Case studies and exam technique
Many Business papers are built around a case study. Students who read the case carefully and use its facts in their answers score much higher than those who do not. Tutors practise this with past paper case studies, showing students how to pick out the useful data and how to structure answers for different command words such as “explain”, “analyse” and “evaluate”.
For KCSE Business Studies, many questions ask for a set number of distinct points. Tutors teach students to write each point clearly and briefly so that the examiner can credit it. The book-keeping questions also need careful, accurate working, which tutors practise step by step.
Before exams, our exam preparation service adds timed past papers with detailed feedback.
Real-world understanding
Business makes more sense when students connect it to the world around them. Tutors use examples from Kenyan and international businesses to explain ideas such as pricing, market research and motivation. This helps students remember the theory and gives them material for analysis and evaluation.

Frequently asked questions
My child understands the ideas but loses marks on long answers. Why?
Long answers need application, analysis and evaluation, and each skill earns separate marks. A tutor shows your child how examiners award these marks and practises each skill on past questions.
Do you help with the finance calculations?
Yes. Finance is often the weakest area. Tutors work through each type of calculation and then practise interpreting the results, because the exam asks what the numbers mean as well as how to find them.
Do you support the IB Business Management internal assessment?
Yes. Tutors explain the criteria and help with choosing a suitable business issue and using business tools correctly. The work must be your child’s own.
