Physics Tutoring in Nairobi
Physics explains how the world works, and it uses mathematics to do it. Students who find it hard usually struggle with one of two things: the concepts or the calculations. At Cares Home-based Tuition we teach Physics one-on-one, at your home in Nairobi, at our Riverside Drive centre, or online, and we work out early which of the two needs attention.
Our centre has an on-site science lab, so students can also carry out the experiments their syllabus expects them to know.
Curricula and levels we cover
- CBC/CBE: the physics strand of Integrated Science in Junior School, and KJSEA preparation.
- Cambridge Checkpoint and Common Entrance: forces, energy, light, sound and electricity at an introductory level.
- Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625): Core and Extended, the theory papers, and the practical test or Alternative to Practical paper.
- Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics and the Physics content in Double Award Science.
- A-Level Physics: Cambridge International (9702) and Edexcel, at AS and A2, including the practical skills papers.
- IB Diploma Physics: SL and HL, with support for the internal assessment.
- KCSE Physics: Paper 1, Paper 2 and the Paper 3 practical.
Our curricula page sets out how each system is structured.
What a Physics tutor focuses on
The tutor starts by looking at how your child approaches a problem. Do they know which principle applies? Can they rearrange the equation? Do they use units correctly? The answers show where to begin.
Topics that often need extra work include:
- Motion graphs, equations of motion and resolving forces into components.
- Moments, momentum and Newton’s laws.
- Electricity: series and parallel circuits, potential difference and resistance.
- Waves, including refraction, diffraction and the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Electromagnetism and induction.
- At A-Level and IB: circular motion, fields, thermal physics and quantum physics.
Tutors teach a clear method for written problems: list what is known, choose the principle, write the equation, substitute with units, and check whether the answer is sensible. With practice, this method becomes automatic and students stop freezing on unfamiliar questions.
Physics also needs secure maths. Where rearranging formulae, standard form, graphs or trigonometry hold a student back, the tutor fixes these alongside the Physics.
Practical skills and our science lab
Every Physics course we teach assesses practical skills. KCSE has the Paper 3 practical. IGCSE has a practical test or the Alternative to Practical paper. A-Level papers test planning, measurement and analysis of uncertainty.
In our science lab at the Riverside Drive centre, students take real measurements: the period of a pendulum, the extension of a spring, current and voltage in circuits, refraction through glass blocks and specific heat capacity. Tutors show them how to choose ranges, repeat readings, plot graphs, find gradients and discuss errors. Read more on our science practicals page.
Students who have done these experiments understand the theory better too. A graph means more when you plotted the points yourself.
Exam preparation
Close to exams, tutors work through past papers, mark them against official mark schemes and focus on the questions that lose the most marks: explanations, multi-step calculations and data analysis. Our exam preparation service adds a full revision plan.

Frequently asked questions
My child is strong in maths but weak in Physics. What is the problem?
Often the issue is the concepts, not the calculations. The student can solve an equation but cannot decide which one applies. The tutor spends time on the ideas behind each topic and on explaining them in words.
Do you teach the uncertainty work at A-Level?
Yes. Uncertainties, error bars and the evaluation of experiments appear in A-Level and IB practical assessment. Tutors teach them directly and practise them with real data from the lab.
Is Physics tutoring available online?
Yes. Theory lessons work well online, and students can add practical sessions at the centre when they need them.
